Saturday 2nd April 2022

St Margaret’s Church, Burnage

Duodecimo are holding a singing day during which we will be learning music we rarely get the opportunity to sing and perform. As well as getting to know new repertoire, this relaxed day will also be a great social occasion and help us welcome our newest members. The day will culminate in the recording of the works learned during the day.

Stabat Mater’ Antonio Caldara (1670 – 1736)

This seasonal work by the Italian Baroque composer will form the first of our afternoon sessions. The setting gives ample opportunity for chorus work, solos and different vocal combinations.

In our second afternoon singing session, we will be learning three of Vaughan Williams’ Five English Folksongs, ‘The dark eyed sailor’, ‘The Springtime of the year’ and ‘Just as the tide was flowing’,

Our final session will begin with recording the music we have worked on, after which we will relax with some lighter numbers which the choir so enjoys.

Choir trip to Cornwall!

st materiana

We received a brilliant welcome by local choir, Cadon, and sang a joint concert, with some shared numbers.

“Some of my favourite music, sung very well indeed!”

Marcus Alleyne, Conductor of Cadon Choir

It was lovely to share some new repertoire and reflect on how another choir does things – Cadon were singing pieces written for them, which they thrived on. And the next day we sang a Hassler mass at St Symphorian’s Church, in nearby Forrabury, before retiring to the Wellington Arms for Sunday lunch!
